The Center Without Walls project was created in 2006 to serve as a catalyst - to promote and strengthen the dialogue between Russian speaking Jews and the American Jewish community. CWW introduces Russian-speaking Jews to the richness of New York Jewish life. Our work helps various Jewish Organizations in the New York City area to attract and work successfully with American Jews from Russian-speaking families.
Working closely with Russian-speaking Jews and American-Jewish organizations, CWW creates a dialogue and serves as a catalyst for successful integration by providing:
EXPERTISE on Russian Jewish cultural practices, perceptions and attitudes
SPECIAL GRANTS that support events and ongoing programs
A RESOURCE CENTER offering speakers, films, literature and promotional opportunities to participating CWW agencies
OUTREACH assisting agencies to develop effective promotional campaigns.
SUPPORT for innovative community projects seeking to create meaningful involvement opportunities for young Russian-speaking Jews. This goal is achieved through the distribution of grants that support creative Russian Jews in projects such as salon clubs, theater groups and special interest projects. Each grantee is paired with a professional advisor to assist them with development and implementation of their initiatives.
INFORMAL JEWISH EDUCATORS who are qualified and experienced in bilingual and bicultural education. Informal Jewish educators are available to participating CWW agencies to assist in creating and/or leading Jewish educational sessions and community events.
TRAINED STAFF members include bilingual professionals in the fields of Jewish education, PR and marketing and Jewish communal service. These individuals understand their worldview and share a cultural background and historical experience with Russian Jewish community members.
Since its creation, CWW has successfully attracted many Russian-speaking Jews previously uninvolved in Jewish community life. We continue to develop and support programs in areas such as:
Events for Children, University Outreach, Concerts and Lectures, Holiday Workshops and Celebrations, Promoting Special Interest Project, Trips, Theater, Exhibits, Classes, Social Clubs, Film Festivals
2009-2010 participating Center Without Walls agencies include:
