Beseda: The Two Zions: Israel, America, and Our Jewish Identities in partnership with the Shalom Hartman Institute

Thursday, November 6th, @6PM

Event Description:

Diaspora and Destiny: Israel in the Jewish American Imagination with Dr. Sara Labaton

This is a complicated time to be Jewish and American. What role do Zionism and the modern State of Israel play in our identities as American Jews? How does the project of America shape our values and aspirations? Join the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America for a two-part series exploring these questions and their consequences when it comes to our loyalties, our mission, and how we use our voice.

About the presenter: Dr. Sara Labaton has served as the Director of Teaching and Learning at the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America since 2019. She received a doctorate in Jewish Thought from the Skirball Department of Hebrew and Judaic Studies at NYU, where she wrote on esotericism (sod) in the biblical commentaries of Abraham ibn Ezra. Sara has taught at Beit Rabban Day School, the Frisch School, Yeshivat Hadar, and the Wexner Heritage Program. After spending the past year in Jerusalem, Sara and her family are back to calling White Plains, NY home.
